Chamonix is situated at the base of Europe’s most famous mountain Mont Blanc (4810 M) in the French Alps on the borders of Switzerland and Italy, Chamonix is one of Europe’s largest and liveliest ski resorts.

Skiers and snowboarders are spoilt for choice with the offer of five mountains, each boasting vast and varied terrain with something to suit everyone, whether beginner or pro.

For the more daring, the famous Aiguille du Midi is reached via Europe’s longest cable car and marks the starting point for spectacular descent along the Vallee Blanche.

Featuring in the top resorts favoured by single holidaymaker’s, Chamonix boasts a wealth of facilities to keep everybody entertained, day and night. Highly reputed for its après ski, Chamonix is home to a multitude of bars and brassieres, offering a range of live music and entertainment. Whether you fancy a cosy bar with a log fire and a glass of vin chaud, or a glass of local beer watching a lively band, you’ll be spoilt for choice in this lively town.

There are over 100 restaurants to be visited serving a range of delicacies at both lunchtime and during the evening. The majority of restaurants offer a set menu or a la carte options of cuisine from around the world. A number of shops are also located in the town centre, selling clothing, jewellery, food produce and sports equipment along with numerous other products.

Nestled between Italy and Switzerland and lying at the foot of Western Europe’s biggest mountain Mont Blanc, Chamonix is the third most visited natural attraction in the World.

Chamonix has the honor of being one of the first ski resorts, offering over 200 years of history and culture in this traditional mountain town. It is the cocktail of this charming high-mountain atmosphere mixed with sensational skiing and snowboarding, awe-inspiring scenery and a great party scene that makes Chamonix one of the most famous resorts in the world.

Chamonix boasts ski terrain across multiple mountains and countries and for the more adventurous skiers, the epic off-piste opportunities are endless. One of the most impressive runs is the world-famous 22km Vallee Blanche off-piste itinerary, accessed by riding the Aiguille du Midi cable car to the start of the run at 3842m.

Skiing in Chamonix is unlike skiing in any other French resort and each mountain in Chamonix has its own merit, offering a multitude of slopes to suit all levels of skiers and snowboarders. Whether you are looking for sunny, picturesque slopes, long tree-lined runs or untouched powder fields; you will be sure to find what you are looking for in Chamonix.

With 90% of the ski terrain being above 2000m, Chamonix is a snow-sure resort with its lifts remaining open until May.

Chamonix’s Mountains

The Grands Montets (1235 m – 3300 m)
The Grands Montets is primarily an advanced mountain with wide, open spaces, long vertical and exhilarating steep terrain. The pistes are spread over three mountainsides; the Argentiere glacier, Lognan and the Pendant. This north-facing mountain offers excellent skiing conditions throughout the season from November until May. The ski runs adjacent to the glacier are truly spectacular and not to be missed. For freestyle skiers and snowboarders, there is a snowpark and bordercross, while fans of the off-piste will be in their element. It is possible to ski back to resort on the Pierre a Ric piste.

Brévent / Flégère (1030 m – 2525 m)
56 km of pistes
32 pistes including: 7 black pistes, 7 red, 13 blue and 1 green

Only 300m from the Cold Fusion Chalets, the ski area of Brevent-Flegere offers panoramic skiing for all abilities. Linked by a cable-car since 1997, these two ski areas offer south-facing slopes with a large variety of pistes overlooking the Mont Blanc Massif. Skiers can top up their tans in one of the many outdoor cafés, all boasting one of the most outstanding panoramas in the Alps. In good conditions, it is possible to ski back to resort from either mountain.

Le Domaine de Balme (1453 m – 2270 m)
29 km of pistes
20 pistes including: 8 red and 11 blue

Le Domaine de Balme is the best mountain for intermediate and beginner skiers and snowboarders. On the Charamillon side of the mountain, there is an abundance of wide open, gentle slopes overlooking the full length of the Chamonix valley. On the Vallorcine side of the mountain on the border of Switzerland, skiers can enjoy beautiful tree-lined pistes of varying difficulty. It is possible to ski back to resort from either side of the mountain. At the foot of the mountain, the sunny La Vormaine pistes are perfect for beginners with 3 drag lifts for different abilities.

From Cold Fusion Chalets guests can walk to the closest mountain Flegere which is also link to the ski domain of Brevent. The other mountains Grand Montets, Le Tour & Aiguille du Midi are a short drive from the chalets and Cold Fusion offer a private minibus service to allow easy access each day if required.

CHAMONIX – Ski & Snowboard Lessons

Explore the Chamonix valley with ski lessons, snowboarding lessons, dog sledging, off piste skiing, Vallee Blanche and many other activities only available in the shadow of Mont Blanc.

In Chamonix we work with ESF ski school offering private and group ski and snowboard lessons as well as off-piste courses and all winter activities.

Private lessons offer you the opportunity to tailor your time. You set the objectives and our instructors will help you to achieve them. They are also perfect if you’re not keen on group lessons or maybe you prefer being guided around the mountain whilst getting some technical advice and priority in the lift queues.

How to choose a course for your ability:
Class 1 – I have never skied.
Class 2 – I have skied more than a week. I do elementary turns.
Class 3 – I am a good skier. I can ski under control on all red pistes.
Class 4 – I am a very good skier. I ski all terrains, different snow conditions, black slopes or off – piste.

Valle Blanche

A must do in Chamonix during the winter season, this is a famous off piste run with breathtaking scenery down glacier terrain.
ARVA and harness provided.
