MORZINE
Voted the 5th best ski resort in the world in the Daily Telegraph Travel Awards 2001, Morzine is situated mid-way between Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva and is 1 hour from our flagship chalets in Chamonix Mont Blanc.
Originally a market town, Morzine has managed to preserve it’s original charm and Savoyard style despite being in the middle of the Portes du Soleil ski area and being a gateway to 650 km of ski runs.
Skiing in Morzine is on both sides of the Les Gets Valley and is divided into 3 sectors: Pleney located above the town and to the West, Super Morzine to the East (also the main ski link to Avoriaz) and Nyon-Chamossiere to the North.
Morzine and the Portes du Soleil ski area offer something to suit every level of skier or snowboarder. For the beginners, wide and gentle nursery slopes are plentiful. Intermediates will enjoy the array of tree-lined runs, wide pistes and big bowls and will be pleased to discover that the whole of the Portes du Soleil ski area is accessible on blue and red runs. Famous runs such as the Swiss Wall and the World Cup Downhill black will be sure to challenge the more advanced skier as will the challenging full day Portes du Soleil circuit, covering 80km of pistes and 2 countries without ever having to take the same lift twice!
Morzine has been voted as one of the best resorts for snowboarders, boasting great freeride, pipes, parks and rails, with the best super-pipe in Europe situated in neighboring Avoriaz! A true Mecca for snowboarders of every level.
The Portes du Soleil ski area is so vast that during a week’s holiday, it is actually possible to ski/snowboard in a different area every day!
Apart from the great skiing/snowboarding that Morzine has to offer, the Apres-ski scene in the town of Morzine is lively and varied with a great selection of reasonably priced bars and 2 nightclubs. There is a large number of restaurants (over 30), ranging from small bistros to pizzerias to gourmet Savoyard style restaurants.
For those who fancy a break from the slopes, there are a number of other activities on offer in Morzine, including the following:
- Sports centre with sauna and solarium
- Ice rink
- Indoor pool
- Squash courts
- Bowling alley
- 2 cinemas
- Shops selling good range of products and souvenirs
- Paragliding
- Helicopter rides
- Snowshoeing
