frequently asked questions
Q: “Will I be with other singles?”
A: Yes, ColdFusion caters exclusively for people travelling alone and we can guarantee that you will be with other singles whichever week you choose. The people we accommodate are social people looking to enjoy a traditional chalet holiday with a ready-made group of friends to ski/snowboard with during the day and to socialise with in the evenings.
Q: “Is this a dating holiday?”
A: Absolutely not. Some people travel with us who are in relationships, but for whatever reason have left their partners at home. We also welcome couples, where they are social people and want to enjoy the company of like-minded people in an adult environment.
Q:“What is the average age of people in the chalet?”
A: The ages of our guests can range from 20 years of age to 60 – we have no restrictions! The ages of the people in the chalet prove insignificant throughout the course of the week as people find they have so much in common, age does not come into the equation!
Q: “Will I be the only male/female?”
A: There is generally a 50/50 male/female split in the chalet, although we obviously cannot guarantee this.
Q: “Will I have to share a room?”
A: The prices quoted on the website are based on 2 people sharing a twin room. In the ColdFusion chalet, the bedrooms are spacious and 7 out of the 9 bedrooms have en-suite facilities. The 2 remaining bedrooms have allocated facilities nearby. We allocate room-share based on gender and age-range. We can offer single occupancy of a twin room if desired, although we have to charge a 50% supplement for this.
Q: “I have never tried skiing/snowboarding before – can I still book a holiday with you?”
A: Yes, we welcome people of all abilities, including complete beginners. Our team understands how daunting it can be to put on a pair of skis/snowboard for the very first time and will be on hand to help you every step of the way. We can organise lessons (both group and private), equipment hire and lift pass for you to make your first day as stress-free as possible – after all you will have a lot to concentrate on! After your lessons, we can show you the best places to practice your new-found skills with people who are of the same level as you.
Q: “I am a snowboarder – will I be the only one?”
A: Most probably not. We have seen a growth in the popularity of snowboarding over the past few years and tend to have a 50/50 split of skiers and snowboarders in the chalet. Our chalet hosts and guides both ski and snowboard and so you will always have somebody to snowboard with.
Q: “Do I have to organise my own flights?”
A: Yes, we ask that you book your own flights to and from Geneva Airport in Switzerland. Budget airlines such as Easy Jet and BMI Baby offer cheap and frequent flights out of the UK throughout the winter season. We have no restrictions on the time you choose to arrive and depart. We arrange your airport transfers around your flight times, giving you flexibility to shop around and find flight times which suit you. Simply send us your flight details and we guarantee there will be someone at the airport to meet you when you land and to wave goodbye when you leave.
Q: “How will I know who is meeting me at the airport?”
A:To ensure that the arrival of our guests is easy and stress free ColdFusion have teamed up with professional airport transfer companies to collect all of their guests from the airport and take them to the chalets in Chamonix and Morzine.
The night before departure you will receive a text message giving you details of your pick up time, driver’s name, and emergency telephone number.
Upon arrival at Geneva airport you will be met by the driver holding a sign with your full name. The driver may be meeting other people at the airport but they aim to have a maximum waiting time of only 45 minutes. The transfer time from the airport to the ski resort is only 1 hour 15mins. When arriving at the chalet you will be met by a ColdFusion Rep which will settle you into the chalet.
On the departure day the pick up time from the chalet will be 3-4 hours before your departure flight time. The precise pick up time will be given to you by the resort rep on the night before departure.
In the case of any flight time changes we ask you inform ColdFusion direct on 08700 42 83 47 as soon as possible so we can make the necessary changes to your pick up. If your flight has been delayed, when arriving at the airport on your departure day please inform both ColdFusion direct as well as the airport transfer company on the emergency number given on the text message you would have received the night before.
If you have any questions about your airport transfer please call us on 08700 42 83 47 or via e-mail.
Q: “Do I need to organise my own winter insurance?”
A: Yes. You will need to purchase personal travel/holiday insurance before you depart the UK and ensure that you will be covered for winter sports for the duration of your trip.
Q:“Is ColdFusion Ltd ABTA bonded?”
A: Whilst ColdFusion Ltd is not ABTA bonded; we offer identical financial protection through the IGI Insurance Company Ltd. Please read the relevant section on the ‘How to Book’ page for further information.
Q: "What is the transfer time form the airport to the chalet in Chamonix?"
A: The transfer time is approximately 1 hour, traffic and weather conditions permitting.
Q: "Which ski pass do I need?"
A: There are two ski passes available. The standard Chamonix ski pass covers 4 out of the 5 mountains in the valley where as the Mont Blanc ski pass covers all 5 mountains. The extra mountain is called the Aiguille Du Midi. This is a very famous mountain as it is the highest in Europe and it is where a famous off-piste skiing route starts from called the ‘Valle Blanche’. Many people come to Chamonix to see the views from the top of this lift and so we recommend if you get the chance to go up this lift to do so. Therefore if you are coming to Chamonix for off-piste skiing, amazing views, or a good intermediate to advance skier it is well worth opting for the Mont Blanc Ski pass. On the other hand if you are a beginner – intermediate skier I recommend opting for the Chamonix ski pass as you can buy a single ticket for this lift when in the resort if you wish to go on it.
SUMMARY
- Total Beginners: Don’t pre-book a ski pass and buy it on a day to day basis for the area where you are having your lesson.
- Beginners to intermediates: Chamonix Ski Pass
- Intermediates to Advanced: Mont Blanc ski pass.
Q: "How many days skiing can I do in my week holiday?"
A: It is possible to do 8 days skiing within a week holiday. You are able to do this as, unlike many other companies, we are flexible on your arrival and departure times. This means it is possible to ski in the afternoon on the arrival day and in the morning before your departure flight as well as the 6 days in between. Please note we recommend buying a 7 day ski pass for this as on the arrival day ski pass prices are reduced after 12:30pm and so buying this ticket in resort upon arrival will save you money. The 7 day ski pass will then cover you for the next 7 days, Monday – Sunday.
